Hazards of 12V DC Grids

6 March 2013

Video by DC Systems B.V. displaying the hazards of a 12V DC grid versus a 350V DC operating on our innovation of a smart DC breaker, the Current Router.

When you mention using DC-grids, people often think of 12V or 24V. These voltages are impossible for use in a grid due to copper losses in the wiring. These grids are also a dangerous fire hazard and hard to protect from overcurrent and shorts.

DC requires another mindset and can't be approached or handled like AC (mechanically switched etc.), but with electronics it can be made much safer than AC on 350V DC. In this video we demonstrate the difference between an AC circuit breaker and an intelligent DC breaker.
